  1.           The  ARMIE and BERT  manifesto !!!

  3. (remember THIS demo is recyle-ware, so most points listed
  4. below won't excatly fit on this crap...)
  5.  
  6. We believe
  7. - that Acorn Computers are #1 !
  8. - that these computers serve well as demo-machine.
  9. - that a great demo is something nice to look at,
  10.   irregardless of the quality of the code
  11.   and nothing that contains GREAT code all over but
  12.   hurts your eyes or ears.
  13. - that something which is just a sequence of effects
  14.   (like: look at these 1000 sine-dots, look at this
  15.   depth-shaded sphere, look at this triple-buffered-
  16.   double-cached-twin-direction-turbo-one-way-scroller,
  17.   look at my butt) is simply BORING !
  18.  
  19. We have
  20. - lots of fun coding our demos and whatching others'.
  21. - no interest in criticism. If you don't like it,
  22.   leave it (or do better!).
  23. - lots of stuff to smoke.
  24.  
  25. We will
  26. - code demos until our brains ooze out of our eyes.
  27. - try to get the last out of Acorn-machines.
  28. - smoke until we stumble and fall down on our face.
  29.  
  30. We won't  
  31. - ever code a effect JUST because we've seen in to the
  32.   amiga. There are effects that can be done easily on
  33.   an amiga and only with great work on Archimedes
  34.   because of those copper/blitter thing. Vice versa
  35.   there are effects that are easy on Archimedes and
  36.   impossible on amiga because of pure CPU speed.
  37.   We see no neccecity for coding the first, we will
  38.   go for the second !
  39. - NEVER EVER CODE a simple horizontal text-scroll-line
  40.   and NEITHER some so called COPPER-BARS.
  41.   WAKE UP PEOPLE !! It's the NINETIES !
  42.  
  43. We apologize
  44. - to people who can't run our demos (smoothly) because of
  45.   older machines (ARM2, <4MB, MEMC1 and stuff). We think
  46.   it's time to show what an Archimedes can do, and this
  47.   to the most possible extend. Everybody can have at least
  48.   an ARM250 (all older ARM2-things can be upgraded quite
  49.   cheaply), 4MB (I hardly met somebody with less anyway),
  50.   RISC-OS 3 (get out of the stone-age folx !) and
  51.   a harddisc (you know people running a 486DX with one
  52.   800KB-drive ? nope !).
  53. - to people with VGA-monitors. A low resolution is a
  54.   MUST for complicated effects. Besides that we believe
  55.   that everbody who seriously cares about demos is in
  56.   possession of an RGB- or Multisync-montior. Additionally
  57.   overscan-modes improve demos a lot and we see no way
  58.   to implement those for VGA-screens without increasing
  59.   the refresh-rate (which slows down the computer too
  60.   much).
  61. - to owners of RISC PC's. At least our first Megademo is
  62.   100% RiscPC incompatible. This is due to various bullshit
  63.   we couldn't figure out exactly. And we don't care
  64.   until we get RISC PC's ourselves, because we don't want
  65.   to hang around in the shop all day to find out what
  66.   acorn made wrong. We didn't test whether THIS demo runs
  67.   on the RiscPC, but according to our experience it won't.
  68.  
  69. We search for
  70. - people who share this attitude and want to co-operate.
  71.   This is for the reason that there are a LOT of good coders
  72.   on the Archimedes who can't release full demos because of
  73.   lack of time, graphicians and things like that. So we try
  74.   to bring people together so everybody can do a mega-demo.
  75. - people who want to get really involved and want to join
  76.   us. If you are a coder, musician or graphician please get
  77.   in touch with us.
  78. - software, software and software. For a legal swap contact
  79.   us !
  80. - Tapes ! Wanna swap Breakbeat/House/Acid/Jungle/Trance-tapes ?

  84. - all people who helped building an Archimedes demoscene,
  85.   specially the German one. The people I have to think of
  86.   now:

  88. - The Electronic Knights : For being our FIRST scene-contact
  89.                            and the fun we had !
  90. - Zach and Hajo/tXp : For being nice guys we like to meet.
  91. - Zynx/ArcEmpire : For releasing a REAL scene mag which
  92.                    unfortunately died before it came to life.
  93.                    Have another try, Eivind ! Things are
  94.                    starting to work out !
  95. - Plasma & CrimeHeads : For helping the Archimedes with an
  96.                         illegal scene. This is the first thing
  97.                         a computer MUST have to become popular.

  100.             And sorry for spoiling our first telephone-call
  101.             with my fucked-up voice (the people of ArcDemo94-
  102.             meeting will remember aswell !).
