The ARMIE and BERT manifesto !!!
(remember THIS demo is recyle-ware, so most points listed
below won't excatly fit on this crap...)
We believe
- that Acorn Computers are #1 !
- that these computers serve well as demo-machine.
- that a great demo is something nice to look at,
irregardless of the quality of the code
and nothing that contains GREAT code all over but
hurts your eyes or ears.
- that something which is just a sequence of effects
(like: look at these 1000 sine-dots, look at this
depth-shaded sphere, look at this triple-buffered-
double-cached-twin-direction-turbo-one-way-scroller,
look at my butt) is simply BORING !
We have
- lots of fun coding our demos and whatching others'.
- no interest in criticism. If you don't like it,
leave it (or do better!).
- lots of stuff to smoke.
We will
- code demos until our brains ooze out of our eyes.
- try to get the last out of Acorn-machines.
- smoke until we stumble and fall down on our face.
We won't
- ever code a effect JUST because we've seen in to the
amiga. There are effects that can be done easily on
an amiga and only with great work on Archimedes
because of those copper/blitter thing. Vice versa
there are effects that are easy on Archimedes and
impossible on amiga because of pure CPU speed.
We see no neccecity for coding the first, we will
go for the second !
- NEVER EVER CODE a simple horizontal text-scroll-line
and NEITHER some so called COPPER-BARS.
WAKE UP PEOPLE !! It's the NINETIES !
We apologize
- to people who can't run our demos (smoothly) because of
older machines (ARM2, <4MB, MEMC1 and stuff). We think
it's time to show what an Archimedes can do, and this
to the most possible extend. Everybody can have at least
an ARM250 (all older ARM2-things can be upgraded quite
cheaply), 4MB (I hardly met somebody with less anyway),
RISC-OS 3 (get out of the stone-age folx !) and
a harddisc (you know people running a 486DX with one
800KB-drive ? nope !).
- to people with VGA-monitors. A low resolution is a
MUST for complicated effects. Besides that we believe
that everbody who seriously cares about demos is in
possession of an RGB- or Multisync-montior. Additionally
overscan-modes improve demos a lot and we see no way
to implement those for VGA-screens without increasing
the refresh-rate (which slows down the computer too
much).
- to owners of RISC PC's. At least our first Megademo is
100% RiscPC incompatible. This is due to various bullshit
we couldn't figure out exactly. And we don't care
until we get RISC PC's ourselves, because we don't want
to hang around in the shop all day to find out what
acorn made wrong. We didn't test whether THIS demo runs
on the RiscPC, but according to our experience it won't.
We search for
- people who share this attitude and want to co-operate.
This is for the reason that there are a LOT of good coders
on the Archimedes who can't release full demos because of
lack of time, graphicians and things like that. So we try
to bring people together so everybody can do a mega-demo.
- people who want to get really involved and want to join
us. If you are a coder, musician or graphician please get
in touch with us.
- software, software and software. For a legal swap contact
us !
- Tapes ! Wanna swap Breakbeat/House/Acid/Jungle/Trance-tapes ?
Contact us !
We pay respect for
- all people who helped building an Archimedes demoscene,
specially the German one. The people I have to think of
now:
- The Electronic Knights : For being our FIRST scene-contact
and the fun we had !
- Zach and Hajo/tXp : For being nice guys we like to meet.
- Zynx/ArcEmpire : For releasing a REAL scene mag which
unfortunately died before it came to life.
Have another try, Eivind ! Things are
starting to work out !
- Plasma & CrimeHeads : For helping the Archimedes with an
illegal scene. This is the first thing
a computer MUST have to become popular.
- SLOMPT : For the best archimedes-demos so far !
- ArmOric : For your friendly help. I will never forget this.
And sorry for spoiling our first telephone-call
with my fucked-up voice (the people of ArcDemo94-
meeting will remember aswell !).
- James Coates : Thanks for the support. You're great ! I
enjoyed our chats. "Take care" ;)
- Joachim Schneider : (Sorry, your handle is too silly !)
For organizing Germanies first demo-
competition and spoiling it with your
stupid rating-system. Slompt had to win !
(and remember I told you BEFORE !?)
- all the guys in FIDO : For being nice people to talk to.
- German Archimedes Group : Without you I would probably have
sold my Arc right after buying it !
- Shifty, Adept, Squoquo, Olivier Higelin, Funky-Demos-Inc,
Matrix, SICK, NoPhobia, HEX (you kick ass!), BASS
This is about all we had to say. Thanks for your attention !
ArMiE aNd BeRt !
